The Virgin Birth of Christ (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781026074824)

"The Virgin Birth of Christ" is a seminal work of Christian apologetics and theological scholarship by the renowned scholar J. Gresham Machen. In this comprehensive volume, Machen provides an exhaustive defense of the doctrine of the virgin birth, meticulously examining the biblical narratives found in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. He addresses the historical reliability of the New Testament accounts while engaging critically with contemporary alternative theories regarding the origin of the belief.

The work is characterized by its rigorous academic approach, combining linguistic expertise with a deep knowledge of historical context. Machen explores the relationship between the virgin birth and the broader structure of Christian faith, arguing for its central importance to a consistent supernaturalist worldview. He investigates potential external influences, such as Greek and Oriental mythology, and systematically demonstrates why these parallels fail to explain the unique Christian testimony. This book remains a cornerstone of conservative theological literature, valued for its intellectual clarity and its steadfast commitment to historical Christianity. It serves as both a profound scholarly resource for students of the New Testament and a compelling defense of traditional dogma for readers seeking to understand the foundations of the faith.
