I grew up in the valley of beautiful Rutland, Vermont, USA, and graduated in 1966 from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Education. A period of depression following the unexpected 1967 death of my father terminated my teaching career in 1968 and from 1969 - 1974 I held a variety of jobs before being hired as a secretary/admin. assistant to two non-profit organizations for 13 years each (the Mental Health Association of Connecticut and the Connecticut Pharmacists Association). Retired, I am doing what I can to promote the ideas and type of practice that healed, energizes, and inspires me. . Like so many of us, I have loved and "practiced" creative writing since I was in grade school. Fiction, when written, is a reliable pathway to the subconscious. Fiction, when written, read, and experienced emotionally with tears and laughter (ideally in the presence of others who are also experiencing what they read emotionally-the practice is called bibliotherapy and it can be used by anyone alone or with others) is a direct pathway to heart and mind. It is heart, the ability to feel deep empathy and compassion, that will rescue humanity and all other forms of life on our precious planet, Earth, from gradual elimination. Do not give up searching for your path and for your precious community. Why must you not give up? Because you-yes-you, are desperately needed.
