We are living in complex and divided times. As a professor of 8 years, and before that, 17 years of serving children and families on the margins, and as a person of color, I have come to learn that individuals and marginalized communities are asking to be heard. I decided to write this book so that Christians, students and educators in Christian education settings, spiritual leaders, and congregations might have another tool to engage in discussions around the difficult topics of the world but do so in a manner that glorifies God in the process. If you are not a Christian, but find yourself disturbed, frustrated, or hopeless by the division in the world, this book may be helpful to you as well, as my intention is to enter a conversation with you around difficult topics in a manner that draws us together, rather than pulls us apart. My intent is not to belittle or antagonize, rather, hopefully share that even in the presence of so much division, God is working His way through all of us, calling us to a better way of loving one another. The reflections in this book are based on personal events that have occurred in my life that have deepened my relationship with God. The insights shared in this book come from spending many hours in contemplative prayer. This book provides students, educators, church leaders and congregations the opportunity to reflect on your own personal walk with Christ for the sake of us loving one another in a way that more closely resembles Jesus's love for us.
