The White Wines of Bordeaux (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781913141844)

An in-depth exploration of some of the most overlooked wines from the world's leading wine region.

It wasn't until the late 1950s that red wines became the foremost category in Bordeaux. While reds still dominate, since the 1990s there has been a revival of interest in the region's whites. In The White Wines of Bordeaux, Mary Gorman-McAdams explores in depth all of the non-red wines of Bordeaux: examining the history and evolution of these less well-known wine styles, the permitted varieties, each appellation in terms of its terroir, styles and significant wines. Readers will meet each apellation's key producers and their vine growing and winemaking approaches; discover the challenges and catalysts for change, from shifts in wine buyer demographics to environmental issues; and uncover the wines' history with a final chapter on vintage white Bordeaux.

Gorman-McAdams explores not only the dry whites of Bordeaux, but also the rosé wines (including clairet), sweet, nobly sweet, and semi-sweet wines, as well as the relative newcomer, crémant - a category that now represents almost 1.5% of all Bordeaux wine.

The acclaimed Classic Wine Library is an essential reference resource for students, wine industry professionals and wine aficionados. Each title is supported by color photos and maps detailing the appellations and geology of the region.
