Born in a small village in Austria, Erika Freiberger Wagner went to high school in Graz and then entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna for a degree in art history and painting. The following year she decided to study biology and philosophy at the University of Vienna, and later she studied to be an interpreter of French. Erika and her husband came to the United States in 1968, having been married for just a few weeks, and moved eight times before settling in Princeton, NJ. When her two sons were well on their way in their American education, Erika returned to Rutgers University graduate school for a degree in German literature. She has taught French and German in high schools, universities and international companies. Erika still has great interest in making art, but is also a poet and recently turned to prose in order to memorialize her young life in the bygone world of Austria in the first half of the 20th century.
