Allan Partington came to North Wales in 1967 to head the construction department of the local college after a career as a chartered quantity surveyor and lecturer. After retirement, he became a self-employed construction consultant. His passion for the history of local slate quarries has led to this novel, Them and Us and a previous novel, Bitter Slate. His interest in local military history has led to two books on the First World War, We're Here Because We're Here and Back to Blighty. He has been married to Marion for fifty-two years and has two sons and four grandchildren.
