Siblings Marlowe and Briar are visiting their Lolo-that's "grandpa" in Filipino-on Seabrook Island in South Carolina. To the girls, Seabrook is a magical place where they run the beach and explore with their dog Mo. They play outside all day long, but one particular sunny afternoon, the sisters come upon something strange.

First, they notice a bush moving. Then, something big, green, and scaly crawls out. There's an alligator in Lolo's yard Mo is scared, but the girls want to investigate until the alligator informs them to keep their distance.
