Dr. Berger was renowned for discovering the first anti-anxiety drug, which revolutionized modern medicine. He was raised in Czechoslovakia without formal religion, though his mother was Jewish. At 26, he was a successful young scientist at the national health institute in Prague when Hitler invaded.
