Dr. Charles A. Stone was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He attended Dominican College, and earned doctoral degrees from Marquette University and The Johns Hopkins University under his given name. He served on the faculties of Medical University of South Carolina, the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio, and Austin Community College. During his academic career, he published 165 articles in the medical literature and over 200 research annotations; contributed to or edited several medical textbooks; and served on the Boards of various medical foundations, most notably serving twenty-five years as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for The National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias. While residing in Charleston, SC, he introduced Dr. Charles A. Stone as the author of a restaurant review column. In Dr. Stone's name, he published poetry in medical journals, in poetry journals and in various anthologies. He has edited three anthologies of poetry, and has authored three nonfiction books and eight books of poetry. He has won prizes for poetry, and has earned three poet laureate titles and one Pushcart nomination. He serves on the Board of Austin Poets International (the parent of the Austin International Poetry Festival). He is the father of two and grandfather of seven, residing with his alter-ego and wife in San Antonio, Texas.
