Aldiana Deumic was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1984. At the age of nine, she survived the concentration camp, starvation, bombings--she escaped death and she witnessed the biggest genocide in Europe since the Holocaust. The War in Bosnia and Herzegovina ended Aldiana Deumic's childhood--it stole everything she had. Her "saviors" and her best friends during the hardest times were a paper and a pen. She and her family came as refugees to the United States of America in September of 1998. Aldiana Deumic graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in December of 2007. She obtained Type 09 Teaching Degree and has taught English and ESL to students of diverse backgrounds and ages. Through Darkness: A Story of the Bosnian Diaspora is an autobiographical novel derived on true experiences of Bosnians during and after the Bosnian War which happened in the early 1990s. This is her first novel.
