It has been my experience that most days will be spent searching for your better self; seeking identity, placement, fulfillment, and satisfaction. People spend so much time planning, then waiting for the right time; how much time has passed tends to go unnoticed until one day, you look in the mirror and have to introduce yourself to yourself for the first time. Life will teach you that there is no "right time". Life is a journey of trial and error; and true growth and an earnest living is more than often accompanied by ups and downs. There is no cheat code to life. My goal for women everywhere is to find themselves. By "finding yourself"; get in touch with your inner soul and emotional being and allow even your deepest pains to be a source of strength. We all get stuck in moments, question the uncertain, and get scared when we have no option but to make a change within. Through these words and experiences, I hope that we can build each other in our similarities and not focus so much on our differences. Let's bond in sisterhood and in womanhood; let's acknowledge that we all fall and get stuck in self-pity, and it's not always easy to get back up. However, these words are not to only uplift us women, they too are to help men better understand the internal battles that women fight. Evolution, Darwinism and Freudian theories would say that women are "emotional beings"; but why can't women just be "expressive"? These "categories" of what is and what isn't is part of the conflict in being accepted versus unaccepted. Through these works, women are more confidently able to express themselves unapologetically and without judgment; in addition, these works will give men more insight into how many women think, feel, and self-soothe. It is hard to be partners, lovers, even friends if between the two, there is a lack of understanding. We are all better companions to one another if we are certain in our identity, confident in ourselves, and sure in expressiveness. It is time to make a conscious effort to be our better selves. Remember, This Is Only the Beginning.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kiya Renae attended the University of Cincinnati where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Criminal Justice concentration). During her studies in undergrad, she was offered multiple opportunities to model that she declined in order to fully focus on her degree. However, after being unsuccessful in finding a job following graduation, she took on some of the modeling opportunities that had been previously offered which later afforded her music video opportunities and magazine spreads with well known artists. Unfulfilled in the industry, and still in search of her ultimate purpose, Kiya Renae enrolled in the Northern Kentucky University where she found herself torn between continuing down the career path of "modeling" or furthering her education. She decided to pursue her degree, earning a Master of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (MSIO) and close the chapter on modeling. Kiya Renae chose the Psychology field in hopes of learning more about herself, personal growth and development. Being raised by a single mother in a family that applauded academia, Kiya Renae was often thought of as the family rebel. Although never leaving her academic roots; piercings, tattoos and urban modeling were far outside of her conservative upbringing. Her search for herself in these two separate yet equal worlds has heavily influenced her creative writing style in expressing the feelings of being torn in searching for your identity. Prior to releasing 'Through Her Own Eyes: This Is Only the Beginning', Kiya Renae has often been asked to write and speak at small engagements because of her unique ability to communicate effectively yet in a way that people can both understand and relate to. Kiya Renae plans to continue to share these expressions through her writings as to help to encourage more women and men to take a journey to find their true selves. She encourages all to go beyond the surface, and take a look within.
