Description
xIlluminated by sunlight and the knowledge absorbed from a room full of books, little bear Chorkie Walker undergoes a metamorphosis, assumes consciousness, and becomes articulate in speech and of limb.
Chorkie asks to be referred to as che, in recognition of ches non-binary status. No longer anchored by the limitations of ches manufacture, and inspired by Nietzsche's Zarathustra, Chorkie sets out with just a rucksack full of wisdom to find an audience: God is still dead, and mankind's ideas of progress, self-fulfillment and evolution are misguided.
Chorkie's words fall on deaf ears, but a chance encounter with another bear helps che to adapt to a world made for giants in stature of diminished intelligence.
When Chorkie engages a porter to walk to Santiago, che is waylaid in a land governed by machine intelligence with no tolerance for non-binary and no record of ches species. Forced to conform and become the subject of scientific study, Chorkie is drawn into the search for the origins of consciousness, develops ches own model of the universe, and is confronted with a dilemma when a viable plan for escape takes shape.
Chorkie eventually resumes the pilgrimage to Santiago, finds popularity as an after-dinner speaker, and closes the loop on ches journey of self-discovery in this allegorical fantasy of philosophical proportions.
Thus Spoke Chorkie Walker is suitable for readers of any age with a sense of humour seeking meaning in a confusing world. Originally published as three separate pocket-sized paperbacks:
