"Captivating and impossible to put down, McAloon's twisted but beautiful world comes alive on the page." (Publisher Weekly's BookLife Prize quarter-finalist)

In a society ruled by women, headstrong Alice Kearns is determined to become its' next leader. And now that she's eighteen, her goal is that much closer to becoming a reality. High on optimism, she heads to the infamous Choice Club on her birthday, where she gets swept up in the glitzy haze of freedom and in the sultry gaze of the club's most popular Choice Boy.

But like all Choice Boys, Tag is just a pretty commodity. An easy distraction at a time when everything in girls' lives is anything but easy. Only, after a few more encounters, Alice starts to notice there might be more to Tag than just good looks and charm.

She suspects he might actually be dangerous.

Alice is almost positive Tag is part of a secret rebel group fighting to overthrow the girl-power regime her ancestors worked so hard to put in place. And now she's determined to prove her suspicions are right and bring Tag and the other insurgents to justice.

But she didn't count on the fact that getting closer to Tag would upend everything she thought she knew.

As alliances blur, conspiracies erupt, and violence escalates, Alice is forced to make the toughest decision of her life: is she willing to betray everything she was raised to protect, for a boy she isn't even sure she can trust?
