Treading the Coffin-Shaped Boards: A Victorian Ghost Story (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798702287980)

Born in the grim shadows of the workhouse, Mary grows up in a world of despair and darkness. To survive the hostile conditions, she discovers she possesses mysterious and unsettling abilities. Each night, from her coffin-like bed, she hears the ominous creak of floorboards and sees malevolent spirits lurking in the shadows-vengeful phantoms and demons that haunt her every moment.
As an adult, misfortune drives Mary back to the workhouse, this time with her two children in tow. But the oppressive Master, fearing her influence on the other inmates, expels her onto the perilous streets of Victorian London, heartlessly separating her from her boys. Desperate and alone, Mary crosses paths with Charles, the charismatic owner of the Royal and manager of the Drury Lane Theatre. He offers her a new life on the stage, plunging her into the decadent and debauched underworld of the Victorian theatre.
While she captivates audiences with her performances, Mary is consumed by the need to reunite with her lost sons. As the sinister spirits that once haunted her now weave their way through the theatre, a chilling and macabre drama unfolds. In a world where the lines between the living and the dead blur, Mary must navigate treacherous paths and confront the darkness that threatens to consume her. The stage is set for a haunting tale where vengeance, love, and the supernatural intertwine.
