KARLA THREADGILL BYRD is a Philadelphia resident who has made Pittsburgh her adopted home. After graduating from California University of Pennsylvania, she went on to earn her Master's at the University of Pittsburgh and teach in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Since 1997, Mrs. Byrd has served as the executive director at the Center for Urban Biblical Ministry (CUBM) in the Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh. She has given herself tirelessly to rebuild the urban community through education and volunteerism and was herself nominated and recognized as an Urban Hero. JOHN W. STANKO is the assistant director at CUBM and is a well-known author and conference speaker. John also serves CUBM as an instructor and director of missions. John's work often takes him to Africa, and his life has been spent in the pursuit of racial reconciliation here and abroad, as well as equipping people around the world to find and fulfill their life's purpose.
