A lyrical and historical account of an ocean voyage
It is the twenty-third of March 1992, and the treasured Greenpeace yacht Vega is berthed at the viaduct in Auckland harbour, Aotearoa. The crew of three women crew and the boat's Captain Chris Robinson wave goodbye to the crowd gathered on the wharf. Guided by paper charts, a sextant, and the stars, they will sail across the Tasman Sea, through the tropical waters of Australia, across the vast Indian Ocean and up the coast of Africa towards their destination, the Island of Paros in the Aegean Sea. This book tells the tale of that voyage through the eyes of crew member Robyn White. While fears, dangers and joys play out on deck, and memories, hopes and dreams well up from the depths, the crew begin to question if they will make to their destination and wonder what will become of their beloved Vega when they get there.
