Visual Perception for Robots: Teach machines to detect objects, follow targets, and respond to their environment (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798189666339)

A camera can capture thousands of images, but turning those images into useful decisions is a different challenge.

Visual Perception for Robots shows you how to build practical systems that can recognize important features, track movement, estimate position, and navigate changing spaces.

Inside, you'll learn how to:

- Prepare camera input for reliable processing
- Identify shapes, colours, edges, and useful features
- Locate and classify items within an image
- Track moving subjects across consecutive frames
- Estimate distance, depth, direction, and motion
- Calibrate cameras and correct distorted images
- Combine camera input with other sensor readings
- create obstacle-awareness and navigation behaviours
- Evaluate accuracy, speed, and failure cases
- Move from computer experiments to working robotic projects

The explanations are clear, conversational, and focused on practical results. You'll understand not only how each method works, but also why lighting, camera position, background clutter, processing speed, and poor training examples can affect performance.

Whether you're a student, programmer, hobbyist, or engineering professional, this guide will help you create systems that can interpret what a camera sees and use that information to make better decisions.
