Walk Witt Me: The Evolution of a Young African-American Male (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9780692264942)

This is a story about the evolution of a young African American Black male, the trials & tribulations he faces while evolving into adulthood. I feel this story comes from and different angle, because the character doesn't come from the typical scenario of and urban beginning with a single mother, single father, grandparents rising him or alcoholic/drug addict parents. He actually comes from a middle class African American family that both parents do well but ventured off track because of his on poor choices. Growing up in the 80's were both fun as well as rough for Kendrick and family his but they always pulled together making things better even when it seem unbearable for them. He became an unbelievable athlete right out the gates in high school. Making himself well known as he begun to experiencing a multitude of things from sex, gambling, drugs, and street life on a day to day basic as he tried to dodge this like a car trying to allude potholes. Rising to the top is very difficult, but to fall from it is easy and can be crushing for a young teenage man. The pain he felt mustn't been like a glass shattering in a million pieces, and it takes a strong willed person to climb out a state of misery while trying not to fall into drug activity in the process. Not known which way to turn or go, Kendrick received an opportunity to travel to California where he saw and met lots of people as well as superstars during his stay out west. The hood just kept it grips on Kendrick, or was it just flat out fear that did it. Because after a nine month stay in Cal he was back in Springfield, Michigan just as lost as ever this time and now a nineteen year old man without a plan. Major his older cousin taught him the games ins and outs A-Z he was like Kendrick's professor over the next couple months. Kendrick was a fast learner and promise to put his fingerprints all over the game making his new mentor proud like a daddy for his son. There was a higher calling on Kendrick's life than he knew because he would soon get a third attempt at living out his hoop dream even after losing the first, and running from the second one. He did bounce around the ABA and IBL basketball leagues before returning home for a much needed break. But to his dismay he would run into and old high school sweetheart in the process. Things started to look up for him, but in typical Kendrick fashion he mess that up to as the street kept calling him like 'Pookie' from New Jack City....
