He has degrees from the University of Dallas and the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a graduate of the Playwright Studio of the National Institute of Dramatic Art, Sydney, Australia . Carl served as a Recon Platoon Leader with the First Cavalry Division, as well as with the 75th Rangers. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
