The majority of waste rubber, mainly coming from industrial rubber scraps and from the end-of-life tires, is discarded, causing diseases and environmental contamination. In fact, the stacking of rubber scraps promotes the growth of mosquitoes and rodents, and it can also produce spontaneous heating resulting in fire. Thus, the landfilling of waste rubber was forbidden by the European Commission since 1999 and since then efforts are made to recycle these wastes, despite the difficulties related to the complex structure and composition of vulcanized rubbers. Several methods have been developed to recycle waste rubber but the most interesting one is based on the devulcanization approach since it allows the reuse of the treated material in new competitive products.
The book covers different aspects such as tire granulation technologies, rubber recycling by different devulcanization techniques, pyrolysis of waste tire rubber, and the use of waste rubber in concrete mixtures and in polymer composite materials. This book is therefore of interest to researchers, teachers, and students in the field of polymer and material science, materials engineering, chemistry and chemical engineering. It also represents a valuable resource for the rubber industry.
