What Every Singer Should Know (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781511874755)

What Every Singer Should Know: What Every Singer Should Know Heart to Heart Talks With Vocal, Students and Those Contemplating Plating Voice Culture is not a music studies guide for the purpose of instruction in singing, as singing is an art which cannot be taught from book or correspondence. Neither is it a technical treatise on the voice, but instead I aim through the medium of my book to have a "heart-to-heart" talk with the beginner, and with those who contemplate the study of voice culture. Contents: "Is it worth my while to have my voice cultivated" -- "Can I become a grand opera singer?" -- "At what age shall I take up the study of voice culture?" -- Singing lessons as a health culture -- Advice to parents -- "Is it necessary to go abroad to study?" -- Chorus singing -- Stage fright -- The accompanist -- Selecting a teacher -- Art for art's sake -- Educating the masses -- Hints and helps -- What and how to practice -- The breath -- A few practical exercises and illustrations.
