What happens when you strip away the clothes and discover that some people are significantly worse without them?
Kristin Williams has been a card-carrying nudist for nine years. She has visited nudist resorts on four continents, navigated the unwritten rules of clothing-optional beaches from Croatia to the Pacific Northwest, and logged more hours in communal hot tubs than most people spend on their taxes.
She knows the nudist code cold. She lives it. She believes in it with her whole heart and most of her epidermis.
She also knows that some people treat the nudist code the way they treat the terms and conditions on a software update - technically aware of its existence, deeply committed to ignoring it.
When Good Nudists Go Bad is the book nobody in the nudist community wanted written and everybody in the nudist community desperately needed. It is a journey through the full, unfiltered, occasionally unhinged reality of what happens when clothing-optional spaces meet human beings at their most complicated - and sometimes their most naked-and-terrible.
Kristin takes you through it all.
The resort manager who spent an entire weekend enforcing guidelines inconsistently right up until the moment he punched a fully naked guest in the face next to a swimming pool and got arrested in wet khakis in front of an audience of stunned resort guests.
The best friend who turned a rotisserie chicken dinner into a full contact sport, resulting in two naked women throwing poultry at each other across a kitchen while a man calmly ate a drumstick in the background and filmed the whole thing, which then got twelve thousand views in twenty-four hours.
The poolside incident involving forty uninterrupted minutes that violated every principle of nudist etiquette simultaneously and somehow got worse when Kristin tried to address it.
And yes, the moment during a naked wrestling match on a resort lawn when a well-placed kick to the midsection produced a sound that carried clearly across the entire outdoor facility and became, against all odds, the single most talked-about moment of the weekend.
This is a love letter to nudism written by someone who has seen it at its chaotic, dramatic, police-involving, poultry-throwing worst and still shows up. Still brings her towel. Still keeps her eyes at face level.
Come for the chaos. Stay for the code.
Bring a towel.
