When Grace Defies Fairness (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798254656012)

We live in a world shaped by performance, comparison, and control. What we do is measured, what we achieve is evaluated, and what we receive is often interpreted through what we believe we deserve. Over time, this creates pressure, anxiety, and a quiet sense that something is never enough.

Even within the church, grace is often affirmed-but no longer lived.

When Grace Defies Fairness explores how this shift happens and why grace has become difficult to recognize. Drawing from Jesus' parable of the vineyard workers in Matthew 20, the book reveals how deeply merit-based thinking has shaped the way we interpret life, relationships, and even our faith.

The tension is not new. Like the early workers in the parable, we naturally expect outcomes to align with effort. When they do not, dissatisfaction emerges. Comparison distorts perception, control increases pressure, and entitlement weakens gratitude. What was meant to be received freely becomes something we quietly try to earn.

This book traces that movement across four stages:

• how grace becomes obscured,
• how it is misread,
• how perception begins to shift,
• and how life is transformed when grace is lived.

At the center are four essential postures that restore clarity:

An undeserving heart releases the need to justify what is received.
A non-comparing attitude frees us from measuring ourselves against others.
Yielding to God's sovereignty loosens the need to control outcomes.
Embracing gratitude redirects attention to what is already present.

These are not abstract ideas, but practical ways of living that reshape how we respond to delay, difference, uncertainty, and daily pressure.

Through reflective teaching and real-life case studies, the book shows how grace moves from concept to lived reality. It addresses common struggles such as perfectionism, entitlement, comparison, anxiety, and the need to secure outcomes-revealing how each is rooted in the same underlying assumption: that life should align with what we do.

But grace disrupts that assumption.

It gives without proportion.
It operates beyond calculation.
It refuses to conform to what we consider fair.

The result is not passivity, but freedom. Effort remains, but it is no longer burdened by the need to secure outcome. Responsibility continues, but without the pressure to justify worth. Life becomes steadier, not because everything is resolved, but because it no longer needs to be.

This book is for those who feel weary from striving, unsettled by comparison, or burdened by expectation. It is an invitation to see differently-not by doing less, but by living from a different foundation.

Grace has not disappeared.

It has only been obscured.

And when it is seen clearly again, it does not merely change what we believe.

It transforms how we live.
