Born in Jerusalem of Palestinian-Quaker parents, May Mansoor Munn's native language is Arabic, but she fell in love with the English language when she attended the Friends Girls' School in Ramallah, the West Bank. At 15, Munn left for college in the United States, receiving a BA in both English and Religion from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. She later minored in history at the University of Houston. Munn taught at the Friends Girls' School in Ramallah, where her mother had taught before her. She married and moved back to the States, settling in Houston, where she taught world history. But her real passion was always writing. Over the years, Munn has written and published numerous essays, articles, poetry and short stories. Her work has appeared in the Christian Science Monitor, Ms magazine, and in several book collections of writing from the Middle East, among other outlets. Her novel Ladies of the Dance was published in 2013. May Mansoor Munn lives in Houston with her husband, Albert.
