J. R. Barth hails from the small town of Perry, NY which is named for the American naval commodore, Oliver Hazard Perry, the hero of the 1813 Battle of Lake Erie. He holds B. S. and M. S. degrees from The Ohio State University and is a member of Gamma Sigma Delta academic honor society. Following experience as a combat helicopter pilot during the War in Vietnam, he was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS where he commanded the HHC, 1st Infantry Division. His civilian work experience includes leadership positions in large corporate businesses, non-profit organizations, and several entrepreneurial ventures. He is the founder of The Pennsylvania Business Brokers Association and also served as an adviser to numerous start-up initiatives in Pennsylvania and New York. In 2013 Barth published a memoir of his war experiences titled Shadows From Can Tho, which has since been developed into two separate theater pieces that debuted in 2013 and 2017 in Rochester, NY. Also in 2013 he returned to Vietnam with his wife to teach English at Quang Binh University. Since returning, he has focused primarily on various writing projects. This book is his first volume of collected short stories and poems. A second volume is expected to follow in 2019. In his spare time he pursues the elusive trout of Western New York streams, and manages the operations of the fifty-piece Perry Community Concert Band. He resides in his hometown with his very talented wife, Jessie M. Barth, who is also an author, teacher and musician.
