Where the Swings Touch the Sky: Big Adventures in Small Moments (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798295470219)

Where the Swings Touch the Sky follows a child through a full, joy-filled day at the playground, capturing the magic of ordinary moments through twenty-five short, musical poems. Each poem highlights a different corner of the playground and a different feeling-anticipation, bravery, silliness, friendship, calm-woven together into a gentle narrative of exploration and growth.

The day begins with Morning at the Gate, where the playground feels like a world waiting to be discovered. The child steps inside with excitement, setting the tone for a day of curiosity. The first adventures unfold on the slide and swings, where motion becomes a kind of freedom. The slide offers a thrilling swoosh, while the swings lift the child higher and higher, creating the illusion of brushing the sky.

As the child moves deeper into the playground, the poems shift to moments of creativity and teamwork. In Sandbox Builders, children work together to shape a castle, complete with moat and leafy flag. Monkey Bar March celebrates determination as the child crosses the bars hand over hand, discovering strength and confidence along the way.

The book continues to explore the playground's variety of experiences: spinning on the merry-go-round, hopping through a chalky hopscotch grid, climbing a colorful wall, and twirling on a tire swing. Each poem captures a sensory detail-the crunch of pebbles, the sparkle of a fountain, the cool shade beneath a tree-inviting young readers to notice the textures and sounds of outdoor play.

Midday brings quieter moments. A snack at the picnic table offers rest and connection. A shady bench becomes a peaceful pause. Even small discoveries, like a squirrel darting past or treasures in the lost-and-found box, become tiny stories of their own.

As the day continues, the poems highlight friendship and shared play. Children race together, draw chalk rainbows, wave hello, and invent new games. These moments emphasize cooperation, imagination, and the easy way friendships form in shared spaces.

The book gradually shifts toward evening. Shadows stretch long across the playground, and the energy softens. The child takes one last swing, one last slide, one last look around. In Goodbye, Playground, the day closes with warmth and gratitude. The child heads home carrying the joy of every small adventure-proof that big feelings often grow from simple moments.

Across all twenty-five poems, Where the Swings Touch the Sky celebrates the wonder of childhood through movement, rhythm, and sensory detail. It shows how a playground becomes more than equipment-it becomes a place where children test their courage, build friendships, imagine new worlds, and discover themselves. The book invites young readers to see their own play in a new light and reminds adults of the beauty in everyday experiences.
