I am an alcoholic with 35 years of sobriety. It was very hard getting sober in the beginning until I learned to accept the fact that I just couldn't have one drink and function socially. When I am around friends that are drinking alcohol now I just say, I'll have a ginger ale with lemon. No one knows that I am not drinking and I feel OK with that. I also feel better the day after than they do!
