In every town and city, however crowded and congested, there are vital pockets of wild nature to be found by those who look.
Join head gardener Nick Stewart Smith as from dawn to dusk he spends a day walking through various green spaces in London. The journey takes us to a stretch of ancient woodland surrounded by a bustling urban sprawl, and from there to a disused canal towpath with a curious history. We visit a popular local park in the early summer sunshine before finishing our nature odyssey on the deserted nighttime streets close to Nick's home.
In each place, he takes time to admire and describe the various wildflowers along the way, plants that often go unnoticed and ignored, sometimes shunned and dismissed as weeds. Through closer observation, our appreciation grows for these valuable wildflowers and their attendant wild creatures, most of which continue to survive and even thrive in the midst of one of the world's busiest cities.
