Will The Real Louis de Ville Please Stand Up: A novel about Identity and Invention (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798185051009)

Who painted this picture. A retired solicitor from Essex inherits nothing from the family estate but a painting - of his grandmother, captured by a forgotten Montparnasse artist named Louis de Ville. Curiosity sends him to Paris, where he searches for the traces of an artist both everywhere and nowhere: present in the photographs of the famous, mentioned in passing by the celebrated, but not claimed by any serious account of the 1920s. The further he searches, the less the question resembles the one he started with. Who was Louis de Ville? And why did his grandmother leave the clue for him alone to find?
