Willfully, Dorothy (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9798996219704)

The Wizard left without her, then Glinda says she could have gone home at any time (thanks to those powerful shoes); Dorothy finally realizes she's been lied to, manipulated, and used as a political assassin. The result: Dorothy's anger triggers her magical awakening-in short, she "goes all Carrie" with a never-before-seen magical act: the use of all four elements (fire, water, earth, and air).

Suddenly, the Emerald City-and soon all of Oz-is cast under a magical darkness blotting out the sun, moon, and stars. Can Dorothy fix this?

Willfully, Dorothy explores her becoming the maiden of classic witch identity. Her journey is revealed in contrast to the rise of the Wizard thirty years prior, and new characters show the hidden history of Oz through hexes, love stories, and political change.

Willfully, Dorothy is a queer, imaginative retelling shaped by identity, freedom, and self-discovery. Oz enthusiasts will find a darker return to Oz that questions the story we thought we knew. It tells a powerful heroine's journey through betrayal, awakening, and choice in a magical world filled with wit, atmosphere, and emotional depth.

Book One in the A Life in Oz trilogy, Willfully, Dorothy follows America's favorite heroine through transformation, power, consequence, and self-discovery in a darker reimagining of Oz. Beginning with Willfully, Dorothy, the series explores what happens when Dorothy refuses to simply return home and instead begins to discover who she is becoming, and what home truly means to her.
