William Fighting Billy Tipton (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798906712691)

Born in the Shenandoah Valley in 1761, William Tipton learned early what the frontier demanded: stillness, watchfulness, survival. At eighteen, in the failed assault on Savannah, he earned the name that would follow him for seventy years--Fighting Billy.

What follows is the sweep of a life: a blacksmith who became a landholder: a husband to a woman as sharp-eyed as he was; a father to eleven children on the Tennessee frontier; and a friend and sometime conscience to Andrew Jackson, whose greatness he never mistook for goodness.

Spanning nearly nine decades, Fighting Billy Tipton is a novel of one family's fact, legend, and lore--the story of a man who held what was worth holding, and passed forward what was worth passing.
