Born in Northampton, England, Ron James joined the Royal Air Force in 1942. He completed two tours of operations with 90 and 214 Squadrons and after the war he was posted to the Dutch East Indies to help with the release of prisoners of war still held by the Japanese. He later owned a transport motel and a bookshop in his home town. Being a keen amateur historian, he wrote several books, including 'Avenging in the Shadows', 'I Was One of the Brylcreem Boys', 'Mercy Mission to Java' and 'A Private's War'.
