In the year 2000 Pat Richie began sending a weekly email devotion to 30 NFL coaches and administrators called "Wisdom for the Busy SportsLeader." Each could be read in about 20 seconds. By the end of the year about 500 people from all walks of life asked to be included on the mailing list. Eventually people requested that the devotions be compiled into a book. In 1990 he was inspired to encourage NFL players to pray on the 50-yard line at the conclusion of the game. He also served as team chaplain to the San Francisco Giants, San Jose Sharks, and Stanford University football.
