This book investigates the representation of property in Jane Austen's novels. Challenging the lack of legal ownership afforded to women of her time, Austen depicts female characters securing affective relationships towards property, hence unreservedly legitimising female ownership.
Dr. Rita J. Dashwood is an expert in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature and legacies. She is the Postdoctoral Research Fellow in The Romantic Ridiculous at Edge Hill University. Her work has been published in the Journal for Eighteenth-Century Studies and Nineteenth-Century Studies as well as in several edited collections. She has received multiple awards throughout her career, including the British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies' President's Prize for her research on Austen.
